About
Welcome to RheinZeit, a culinary gem nestled along the picturesque banks of the Rhine River in Cologne, Germany. Located at Große Neugasse 42, RheinZeit is where tradition meets modern dining, offering a hearty taste of German cuisine that excites the palate and warms the soul.
From the moment you step inside, you are enveloped in an ambiance that beautifully complements the stunning riverside views. It’s no wonder diners rave about the experience of enjoying their meals at one of the outdoor tables, particularly as the sun sets over the Rhine. Alisa Haku, a recent visitor, described the German pork knuckle as "absolutely delicious — tender on the inside and crispy on the outside." If you are a lover of well-balanced cocktails, RheinZeit doesn't disappoint; they craft refreshing drinks that serve as the perfect complement to your meal.
When it comes to the menu, the offerings are both generous and delicious. If you’re in the mood for classics, don't miss the schnitzel served at RheinZeit. Wade Smith highlighted its substantial size, stating it was "bigger than your plate,” ensuring that every bite is a satisfying experience. For those looking to dive deeper into traditional flavors, the hearty Schlachtplatte is a must-try, featuring a delightful variety of sausages and Leberkäse that will transport you straight to Bavarian bliss.
But what if you're not a meat fan? RheinZeit has something for everyone. Volha, another satisfied diner, delighted in a breakfast that was both delicious and reasonably priced, customizing her meal to suit her preferences with a warm cup of green tea instead of the customary beer. Such flexibility shows the attentiveness of the staff, who strive to provide a personalized dining experience, despite a few mixed reviews regarding service attentiveness.
While the culinary highlights certainly shine, it is worth noting that some guests have encountered service inconsistencies. For instance, a diner named Ol Ti mentioned some disappointment with overcooked Gambas and service miscommunication regarding seating preferences. However, these moments do not overshadow the overall dining experience, as the food’s quality continues to impress.
For a meat lover who cherishes robust flavors and hearty portions—along with the crisp taste of Kölsch beer served in narrow glasses—RheinZeit is undoubtedly a destination worth visiting. As you dine with stunning views of the Rhine, let the comforting aromas and flavors dance on your palate. RheinZeit promises not just a meal but a memorable experience that beckons for a return.
Whether you’re a local or a traveler, make sure to stop by RheinZeit and indulge in a delightful feast, making lasting memories at this riverside culinary haven.
“ Recommended by our Viking Program Director. The schnitzel is excellent and bigger than your plate. Bratwurst is excellent, too. Kölsch beer is also excellent, and best served in the small, narrow glasses. ”
“ I wish every breakfast was like this! The dish is typically served with beer, but I asked for green tea instead, and the staff kindly accommodated my request. I was genuinely impressed by the quality of the food, it was delicious. On top of that, the price was very fair. A truly satisfying experience! ”
“ We visited RheinZeit and ordered the gebratene Gambas (6 pcs), the Schlachtplatte for two with fries and sauerkraut (including various sausages and Leberkäse), and a T-bone steak. Shortly after placing our order, we were pleasantly surprised with warm, freshly baked bread — a lovely touch and very tasty. The T-bone steak was grilled to the perfect level of doneness and remained juicy and flavorful. The sausages and Leberkäse from the Schlachtplatte were also well-prepared and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the Gambas were overcooked, making them dry and a bit disappointing. Cola was served inconsistently — sometimes with lemon, sometimes without. The main drawback of the experience was the attitude of the staff. When we arrived, we wanted to sit at the last table at the edge of the terrace to enjoy the view of the Rhine. However, the waiter refused, claiming it wasn’t his service area, and walked away. We had no choice but to pick from the tables he offered. Later we noticed that the same staff was serving all the tables, including the ones we were initially denied. While the food was generally good, the unwelcoming service left a negative impression. ”
“ Paid around 17euros for the bratwurst with fries and a beer. I'm a tourist so I'm not sure as to how it compares, but the bratwurst was rather... just ok. I don't know why I expected 2 bratwursts for almost 15 euros but I was also disappointed there's only one haha. That said, the staff barely spoke English but was super sweet and attentive. ”
“ The restaurant is next to the river and next to other restaurants so it has a nice view and atmosphere. The food was delicious with good portions. If ou are a meat fan, it is a great place to eat and drink german beer! ”
“ The German pork knuckle here is absolutely delicious — tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. The cocktails are also great, perfectly balanced and refreshing. The restaurant has a fantastic view, especially from the riverside tables. Just note that the outdoor riverside seating closes a bit later in the evening, so I recommend coming earlier to fully enjoy the beautiful Rhine River scenery. ”
